The Magic Trumpet by Corrado Maria Saglietti is a fascinating collection of nine duets for two trumpets, designed to guide performers through a musical journey that is both educational and poetic. Each piece has its own sound world, allowing musicians to explore a wide palette of styles, atmospheres, and techniques.
The suite opens with Taranté, an energetic movement with lively accents reminiscent of folk dance, followed by Specchi, where the melodic lines answer each other like in a play of reflections. Ballata offers a lyrical, sweet, and singing moment, while Nuvole creates a suspended atmosphere, evoking clouds slowly drifting across the sky.
With Tango, Saglietti introduces a more rhythmic and sensual language, in contrast with Calls, a short and incisive piece that highlights direct dialogue between the two trumpets. Take It Easy brings a touch of lightness and relaxation, followed by Monkyes, a playful piece that encourages mutual listening and rhythmic precision.
The collection concludes with Al Galoppo, a virtuosic and compelling finale, a true little musical gallop. The Magic Trumpet thus presents itself as a rich and varied set, ideal for developing rapport between two trumpeters and offering the audience a lively and colorful experience.
